Counselling

We strive to offer a confidential and safe environment within which the service user can explore their difficult life issues.

We aim:

  • To assess and screen service users to offer appropriate support
  • To work motivationally on a one-to-one basis with clients to support their readiness to attend the Structured Day Programme
  • To offer one-to-one counselling support to family members experiencing distress due to problematic substance abuse of family member
  • Offering counselling support to work through difficult life issues therefore promoting the re-integration of clients back into families, communities and society through counselling interventions
  • To offer a telephone counselling response to distressed callers

While the presenting issues might be drugs and alcohol dependency the counselling intervention offers the service user the opportunity to explore their relationship with these substances and the underlying causes. Many of the underlying issues may include the following:

  • Low self esteem
  • Family and relationship difficulties
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Marital and partnership breakdown
  • Abusive or violent relationships
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks and stress
  • Loneliness
  • Physical / psychological / sexual abuse
  • Anger and violence
  • Suicidal feelings and self-harming
Referrals are taken from statutory and voluntary services, e.g. G.P’s (doctors), community services, social services, probation services, prisons, and self-referrals, etc
